Endoscopic Facelift
Endoscopic Facelift Method Indication
The endoscope technique is suitable where an indicated patient suffers with a poorly defined neck (usually this is indicated by a bad angle running between the chin and neck), which is brought about by poor positioning of muscles in the front part. However the skin must possess sufficient elasticity to adapt to the reshape created by our surgeon. This is why we generally confine this procedure to younger patients.
Endoscopic Facelift Procedure
Five short skin incisions are created: Two on both sides of the face very closely behind the earlobe running into the hair and nape. The fifth incision, which is 4 cm long is sited in the "skrak" between the chin and double chin, (so-called sub mental scrak). From these five incisions, our surgeon can treat by endoscope, muscles in every parts of the neck.
Once the surgeon has achieved the desired result the small incisions are sutured.
The patient then has to wear a head bandage for 10 days which is removed together with the stitches.
Endoscopic Facelift Benefits
The benefit of the use of an endoscopic wand, incorporating fibre-optics and a minature camera, is it enables the surgeon to make much smaller incisions.
The benefits of working with an endoscope are many fold. With the short incisions (about an inch long), there is less bleeding and swelling. Patient recovery rate is also generally much quicker.
Specific areas that need lifting can be more easily targetted. Most notably, parts of the face that have previously been difficult to lift, namely:- between the 'frown lines' between the eyebrows and folds and lines around the nose and mouth. By using an endoscope, the surgeon can now work directly under these tissues.
Your surgeon may recommend a combination of endoscopic and more traditional surgery depending on your age as well as specific needs. In many cases particularly the older patient the conventional facelift is often deeed more appropriate.
As with all surgical procedures, new methods and techniques are constantly evolving.
